Got an e-mail from a coworker today saying that her cousin's family is trying to raise money for legal expenses, I think. Basically, their 6 yr old daughter was holding their baby and dropped him, and he supposedly almost didn't make it through the injuries. There was an investigation and they thought it was an open and close case, nothing malicious about it. But now, it turns out they are going to be charged with child abuse and are trying to raise money to fight the charges. Do I:
1) Do nothing
2) Give Money
3) Try to investigate further before making a decision, although I'm not sure how I could tactfully do that...
Here is the story for anyone interested

| That's a tough one Damien. One thing that bothers me, why are they calling it the 'Baby Zach' fundraiser if there's nothing wrong with the baby? |

| Co-workers cousin and possible questions about what really may have happened make this a no if it was me who was forwarded the link. The relationship isn;t close so unless you feel particularly moved by the story I don't see any obligation on your part. |

I don't think I would donate unless it was a close friend.
From the link it sounds like the doctor who treated the child had enough concerns about the extent of the injuries from a fall to want it investigated.
While the story may be true, that is one hell of an injury from simply dropping a child. A 6 year old is not that tall. |

I can't think of ANY reason I'd give money to a co-worker's cousin. I can't think of any reasons why I'd give money to Marianne's cousins. I can barely come up with any reasons why I'd give money to my own cousin.

Thanks all, thats basically what I was thinking, but didn't want to seem inconsiderate. Honestly, the whole thing seems a little fishy to me, and I would normally just delete something like this, but my co-worker is a very nice, good, decent person. However, I know nothing about her extended family.
Recently, an envelope was passed around here to help someone out with the expenses to put her dog to sleep. That one... I was like WTF?? Don't we all get paid about the same here? If you can't afford it put in on your Credit Card.
You've all convinced me. I'd rather lose my money at the tables |

1. Find a 50 foot pole
2. Move far enough away so that the pole just about reaches the problem.
3. Move a little bit further away. |
