Our first Forum member spotlight looks at RobRobRob who seems to be trying to catch me for the most number of posts, :)
Age: 34 Where are you from? Western Massachusetts (Amherst/Northampton) Are you married? No. Children? No. What do you do for a living? Graduate Student in Psychometry. How long have you been playing Internet poker? Since 8/1/03 - In fact that is how long I have been playing poker of any kind. What limits do you play? $2/$4 and $3/$6 currently. Hoping that these are merely stops along my path to higher limits. What is your favorite site and why? Party/Empire - Easy beatable games, fairly decent software, good bonuses. Lots of players all the time. What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now? I no longer have one. My previous big achievement was finishing in the money in a 224 person on-line tournament after only 2 months of play. But now, that 21st place finish seems like a less than exciting showing. My biggest thrill would have to be noticing that the quality of my game is steadily improving, but until recently, it was playing a Royal Flush and getting a high hand jackpot, as well as the pot, on Ultimate Bet. What area of your game are you currently focusing on? Post-flop play of marginal situations. I seem to have a good starting hand selection thanks to Internet Texas Hold 'em, and I sure can play them well enough when the flop really hits them, or when it really misses them but looks like it hit someone else. Part of this is improving putting my opponents on hands based on their betting patterns. If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently? I would have read the books first, and saved up some money so I could start at $1/$2 or $2/$4. The first month and a half playing for pennies did little for my game except give me the bankroll to play for quarters. What's your favorite poker saying or phrase? "In the poker game of life, women are the rake." I don't believe this, I just love the scene in Rounders where Worm says this to Mike, and insists it should be a saying. Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)? Annie Duke is my favorite pro. I am not a fan of poker players based on their skills so much as how personally interesting and enjoyable to watch they are. I like Annie's focus on family, and that she keeps poker from ruling her life, plus I find her TV presence completely charming. My favorite Amateur is a guy I played with at Foxwoods tonight 11/11/03). We nicknamed him ATM Machine, as he managed to dump $400 in about 5 hours at $2/$4, reloading at the ATM twice. Not only that, but he was having a great time, and was a generally fun person to play with. I would follow him around and play with him as often as possible if that were feasible. What are your other interests outside of poker? Chess, Bridge, Computers, Electronics, Wood Working, Sculpture, Music I play bass), Croquet (class C or better 6 wicket, not the backyard variety), roller coasters, hanging out with my friends, enjoying time with my family. Feel free to add anything else you would like to say. I am hoping that I am learning a valuable lesson by playing what seems to be an unending losing streak. Either that, or I am learning I have no skill at this game, and all my initial winnings will be depleted and I'll go back to chess. :)Look Rob up in the Poker Forum! |
