Name
John Kopecky Age 24 Where are you from? Originally from Chicago, IL, now in Enid, OK Are you married? Children? Yes, No Kids What do you do for a living? I'm a 1Lt in the US Air Force How long have you been playing Internet poker? A little under a year What limits do you play? It depends on my mood. I have played up to $5/$10. But, I've had to cash out some money here and there. I'd rather raid my poker account than savings account when paying for an insurance deductible etc. Right now, I'm between $2/$4 and $3/$6. What is your favorite site and why? I love Poker Stars for tournaments and Party Poker for ring games. However, I'll play wherever. I rotate around the internet chasing bonuses. What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now? My biggest poker achievement was chopping the prize money for 1st-3rd in my first ever live tourney. There were 121 entrants, $45 buy in, unlimited $20 rebuys during first hour and an add on. I ended up at the final table of 11 seated next to Carnagex, we were both relatively short stacked at the time and agreed to chop our profits between us. Needless to say, it was a good night for us both as he finished 5th. What area of your game are you currently focusing on? I am working on my No Limit play at this time. I started out learning limit poker. Then I switched to SNGs. Now, I'm focusing on improving my skills at NL ring games. I've noticed a very nice profit potential at these games and hope to cash in on them soon. If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently? I would learn the game by reading books and studying the game before I ever made a real money deposit. For some reason I got lucky during my fish phase. I was up $1000 in my first weekend of play. However, I had no comprehension of pot odds, money management etc. I went entirely on a poor understanding of the game and luck. I lost about $500 of that profit in an hour or so and decided to take a break. I bought a few books (Matthew's was the first) and finally learned the game for real. What’s your favorite poker saying or phrase? "No worries man, I've got plenty of outs." I said this once while playing a home game of pot limit Omaha. I called a guy's all in. He flopped over the top set and was excited to have, 'the nuts.' I figured he had a set. Sure enough, he did. However, I had the nut flush draw, the nut straight draw, and a draw to a higher set (I was holding AAJT at the time). I don't remember exactly, but even though I was behind, I was the favoritie. Sure enough, I hit the nut flush on the turn and won an $80 pot. Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)? I love the way Daniel Negranu plays the game. He's also a class act. What are your other interests outside of poker? I love riding my Harley. Its just a Sportster, but heck, I'm only 24 Feel free to add anything else you would like to say. I may not be the best member of the board for quality posts. However, I am very willing to help any member improve their game. Wheter its watching them play and providing some critiques, or having them watch me play while I explain my reasoning behind certain moves. I had a few helpful coaches while I was perfecting my poker game, and I hope to pass on what I've learned.Look John up in the forum! |
