Computer programmer, governmental analyst, musician, and poker player...what a combination!
Name John Floyd Age 30 Where are you from West by God Virginia - and only true West Virginians have the right to say it that way! Are you married? Children? Yes and yes. I have a wonderful little 10 month old girl. She's my ace of hearts. What do you do for a living? I am a technical support analyst for the U.S. Goverment. How long have you been playing Internet poker? Since October, 2003. What limits do you play? I am still in the micro levels. I play mostly at .50/1 that's my ceiling right now. I usually don't drop down to .25/.50 or lower anymore. My whole philosophy is play a limit until you can sit and drain the money from it and then move up. Eventually, you'll find yourself with a huge bankroll playing the $100/200 tables at Pokerstars. What is your favorite site and why? I think out of all the ones I have tried I like Pokerstars the best. They seem to have the best software and support. What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now? Hmm, I don't think I have one yet. I guess I would have to say tripling up at PartyPoker and actually making a real money withdrawal. What area of your game are you currently focusing on? Every little piece right now. Every part of my game needs work, except maybe starting hand selection starting hand position. If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently? I would have studied more before jumping in, but it was hard to get real competition playing at the play money tables. What’s your favorite poker saying or phrase? "I've often thought, if I got really hungry for a good milk shake, how much would I pay for one? People will pay a hundred dollars for a bottle of wine; to me that's not worth it. But I'm not going to say it is foolish or wrong to spend that kind of money, if that's what you want. So if a guy wants to bet twenty or thirty thousand dollars in a poker game, that is his privilege." -- Jack Binion Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)? I'm not sure I have one in particular. I like Johnny Chan, Sam Farha, Phil Ivey, Paul Darden. I haven't latched on to any one player yet. I respect them all. What are your other interests outside of poker? Computers, computer programming, guitars, pianos, writing, reading. Feel free to add anything else you would like to say. I've really enjoyed getting involved in Holdem. It's a great game and when I began I didn't know there was so much more to it. Also, thank you Matthew for a great book that put me on the right path. I've enjoyed reading and studying poker thanks to your book.Look John up in the Poker Forum! |
