Name: Jason Martin
Age: 31
Where are you from?
Las Vegas (Originally from NY once upon a time)
Are you married? Children?
Married with 3 kids.
What do you do for a living?
I have been self employed for 10 years now and do a variety of things. I am back in college for an Accounting Degree then off to law school.
How long have you been playing Internet poker?
A few months now, heavily.
What limits do you play?
I play a variety of limits. Normally around $1/$2 on limit games. $10 on SnG's and NL games up to $25. I believe I could move up limits but I am quite content with these levels since I make money at them and have fun.
What is your favorite site and why?
I like Party/Empire overall because of the Action. I recently have been playing on Pacific Poker and am liking the ease of playing there (although the software is poor). I am looking forward to trying more sites and seeing what the future holds.
What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now?
That is hard to say. I of course get a thrill any time I win a pot or SnG. Probably my biggest thrill was when I got a straight flush recently, which was my first, and got paid for having it. Also receiving a signed copy of Matt's book for free was sweet!
What area of your game are you currently focusing on?
I would say pure discipline. At times, I have a tendancy to loosen up a bit too much. There are times, albeit rare, when I know I am beat but give up one more bet before conceding. I would like to eliminate this error completely. As other serious players, I am looking at all facets of my game constantly to see how I can improve.
If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently?
I wish I would have learned to let bad beats roll off of me sooner. Today, they do not effect me in the slightest. However, earlier I would go tilting and normally end up losing more than I should. Oh, I also would like to have my first deposit to do over because I did not max it out.
What’s your favorite poker saying or phrase?
Hold'em is a game that takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to master.
Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)?
I like many players but for tournament excitement, I like Gus Hanson.
What are your other interests outside of poker?
I love to read. I will read on average one book every 1-4 days. Knowledge is power. Additional interest areas are business, stock market, politics, sports, school, being a father, and of course visiting my favorite sites--like this one!
Feel free to add anything else you would like to say.
I owe a lot to Matt's book and this site. The book helped give me a foundation to build on. Chatting with other poker player's on the forum has helped me get through the bad poker times, try to help others and given me a sense of direction. If not for the site, I doubt I would have progressed as fast and furious as I did. It really kept me involved in the "poker world". Look Jason up in the forum! |
