Name Grant Duguid Age 38 Where are you from? Aberdeenshire Scotland, but now living in Warrington England after 6 years in the Isle of Man Are you married? Yes Children? Jade age 11 & Connor age 8 What do you do for a living? I have worked in casinos since I was 19, both on land and online, and I am now an Online Poker Room Manager for a UK based company. How long have you been playing Internet poker? Two and a half years What limits do you play? Mainly $0.50/$1 NL, up to 4 tables at a time. Sometimes $1$2 when I want to play fewer tables. Live I only play tournaments, and I am concentrating on £50+ buy-in events, as I have found the low buy-in re-buy events that are the norm here to be very hard to beat. The players generally want to gamble with any two cards to try and build a stack during the re-buy period. What is your favorite site and why? I like Ultimatebet software, but never play there now, as it is the only site I haven't been able to beat. Possibly Empire or Ritz Club after that. I like the fact that Ritz gives you an 'on their backs' scenario in cash game all-in confrontations, which adds a bit of drama that you normally only see in tournaments. As a NL player, this dramatically changes the game, AND you get to see what these guys will push with for future reference. What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now? I was Casino Manager for the first Poker Million, held in the Isle of Man, which was the tournament that opened the floodgates for all the TV tournaments we are seeing today. During the week itself we must have worked 100 hours and it was over in a flash, the buzz all week was tremendous. Strangely, one of the dealers from that event is now also running an online card room in the UK. Playing it wise- it would probably be winning my second live tournament ever, a £20 re-buy where I ground out with just my original buy-in where all around were re-buying like crazy. What area of your game are you currently focusing on? Laying down big pairs when they look like they have been outdrawn in cash games. In tournaments, playing more hands as I feel I am often overly tight. If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently? Read some books first, not after playing, and signing up via affiliates. I have accounts with over 30 card rooms, but not a single affiliate deal in place. What’s your favorite poker saying or phrase? Probably one by Howard 'the Magician', however too rude for the ITH site. Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)? Malcolm 'the Rock' Hardwood who has given me a lot of advice both professionally and in coaching my live play, and is as honest and genuine as they come. Also the Devilfish, who is a tremendous player and has the most fantastic put down lines, and is one of the few Brits who seem to have made a consistent impact in the USA. What are your other interests outside of poker? Golf, I played off 6 until poker took over, I am slipping up through 7 and will probably go to 8 next year unless I get my act together. Football, an Aberdeen fan and an adopted Bolton Wanderers fan now that I am exiled in England. And for you US types, I am also a long suffering Dolphins fan. Feel free to add anything else you would like to say. Keep up the good work, one of the best poker sites on the internet, I'm sure it wont be long before it is one of the biggest. It has helped turned me from a ropey player to a consistently winning one, and I have learned more here and from the book than anywhere else. |
