Geormiet joined the site in October 2003 and plays poker in his free time away from the cello...Bravo maestro!
Member Name Geormiet Age 23 Where are you from? Northern California, but I go to school in Los Angeles. Are you married? Children? Nope What do you do for a living? Full time student, cello performance. I also studied engineering as an undergraduate. How long have you been playing Internet poker? I played for about 1 month in January of 2001. I was always interested in blackjack and card counting, and I was introduced to poker when a friend held a home limit hold'em game with a $3 buy in. Although I lost all $3, I loved the game, and the next day I signed up for an account with Party Poker. Once I lost $50 there, I got scared, and stopped playing. About 4 months ago I picked up a book (Winner's Guide to Texas Holdem Poker, by Ken Warren) and started my Party Poker account again with $50. After about 1 month of break even play, I stumbled onto internettexasholdem.com and aquired Matthew's book, which is when I finally became a winning player. What limits do you play? $3/6 ring game, and $30 and $50 sng tournaments. I started with $500 playing at the .50/1 tables, and am currently at $1800. I seem to be stuck at this level, as I have twice almost made it to $2500, but bounced back to $1800 both times. It's been very frustrating, and I may take some time off because lately as I have almost been expecting losing sessions to occur. What is your favorite site and why? Party Poker for the great selection of games, and Pacific for the weak players. What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now? Watching my bankroll slowly and steadily increase. I haven't posted any big wins yet, but have been close in a few multi table tournaments. What area of your game are you currently focusing on? Discipline, and ignoring bankroll swings. Also, I often get bored with limit ring games, and switch to tournaments or NL too often. If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently? I would have avoided all NL and shorthanded games! For a while all my regular ring game winnings were eaten up by NL, which I still do not know how to play well. Also, I would have started tracking my results with Pokertracker much earlier. What’s your favorite poker saying or phrase? "Surely you have something better to do with your time than play poker. I suggest a walk outside, volunteering at a homeless shelter, or listening to Bach. " - Chris Ferguson Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)? Howard Lederer. What are your other interests outside of poker? Classical music, cello, soccer, frisbee. Look George up in the Poker Forum! |
