Name Frank, aka FEP Age 46 Where are you from? San Diego, California Are you married? Children? Very happily married. We’re working on the children part… What do you do for a living? Accountant/CPA. How long have you been playing Internet poker? I started playing Internet poker in August 2003 and have played between six and ten hours a week since then. What limits do you play? My winning and losing streaks have taken me from .50–1 to 2–4 back to .50-1 and back to 2-4 again. I am currently playing two tables at 2-4 and my bankroll is now purely profits and bonuses. I occasionally play SNG and multi-table tournaments. I have also played low limit tournaments and 3-6 at B&M Casinos. I have resolved to not withdraw from my bankroll until I make it to 15-30. What is your favorite site and why? I’ve played at the PartyPoker and affiliate sites, ParadisePoker, and UltimateBet. So far PartyPoker and affiliates are my favorite, they have the most players and the juiciest games. What has been your biggest poker thrill or achievement up to now? I made it to the final table of a 90 person live tournament. It was only a $20 buy-in, but what a thrill it was to be at the final table. We agreed to chop the prize money when we were down to four players. I recently played a similar tournament with fellow forum member Geormiet and we both made it to the last 14 of 173 participants and the prize money was also chopped at that point. It seems common that in these low buy-in tournaments the player’s chop the prize money and don’t finish the tournament. Problem with agreeing to a chop is that you lose your chance of winning the tournament outright. And winning a tournament is one of my goals. What area of your game are you currently focusing on? It’s funny that when I was starting on the Internet I thought I would grow my bankroll to $10,000 and be playing $15-30 in just a couple hundred hours of play. I now know better. A couple of long losing streaks have helped me see my abilities and weaknesses more clearly and have motivated me to review hand histories and question many of my decisions. I’m still working on learning the various theories and strategies discussed in Matthew’s book. I also continue to work on classifying my opponents and adjusting my play accordingly. My longer-range plan is to focus on fixed limit ring games, then fixed limit tournaments and finally no-limit tournaments. If you could go back in time and start all over again on the Internet, what would you do differently? I initially deposited $50 and because of losses had to deposit an additional $100. A few months later I put in another $1,500 to be able to take advantage of deposit bonuses at various sites. If I were starting over I would deposit $1,500 to Neteller right away, even if I only considered $300 of the deposit my bankroll. For the low-limit player, taking advantage of various site’s deposit bonuses can make up a significant percentage of your overall profits. What’s your favorite poker saying or phrase? Most people underrate luck in the short run and overrate it in the long run. In other words, a good player could have a losing week but could never have a losing year. - Sklansky Who is your favorite poker player (if you have one)? Can I choose three? Doyle Brunson, Chris Moneymaker and Matthew Hilger. Doyle, well certainly I don’t have to explain that - he is a legend. Chris Moneymaker because he parlayed an Internet win into a WSOP win and influenced the popularity of Internet poker. Matthew because he has taught me the most about playing Hold’em, thanks to his book, this site, and my fellow forum members. What are your other interests outside of poker? Playing and writing music, skiing, surfing, golf and in my younger days two man beach volleyball. Feel free to add anything else you would like to say. To state the obvious: My wife, my family, my health and my friends are all more important than poker. I have to remind myself of this as I could spend so much of my free time playing poker. Between Matthew’s book, the ITH forum, Pokertraker and playing online we have such great tools for improving our play. As good as any school I’ve ever gone to. Thank you Matthew and thank you fellow forum members.Look Frank up in the Poker Forum! |
