Hollywood Poker Software

Sharing the same software and tables as Pokerroom, Hollywood Poker is nearly identical to Pokerroom, except the color layout is different. The layout with varying degrees and shades of red is a bit over-the-top and not easy on the eyes. The replacement of the "Pokerroom" chairs with wood-looking saloon style chairs is a nice departure from the Pokerroom theme. The red-felt tables with red-backed cards isn't a good fit. Black cards with a white down-played logo might work better.

There are a number of good features, and a few bad features with Hollywood Poker. They offer both a web-browser and download version of it's software. If you can bring up a web-browser, you can play at Hollywood Poker, including via cellphone. Hollywood Poker [like Pokerroom] is also one of the few online pokersites to support play on Macintosh computers. Hollywood Poker has an interactive environment with a few very nice features. It's player notes feature, which can be tailored to suit your needs, is color-coded. A large text-box gives ample room for player notes. It also has one of the best on-table stat pages in the industry. The ability to turn the avatars off is a plus. Hollywood Poker table menus provide the important "Players seeing the flop" percentiles to help table selection. Players can change the decks into four-color mode.

The software is memory intensive. Players likewise need to sit out in order to access the cashiering services to the table. This can lead to missed hands and a failure to reload prior to the next dealt hand. Sitting out, while there is a waiting list at a table, can see a player taken off the table and his seat given to the next player on the waiting list. Hollywood Poker also has no ability to change the back-color of the cards.

Despite the drawbacks, Hollywood Poker's software is decent and user-friendly.

Hollywood Poker Games

Hollywood Poker has a variety of games for it's players to participate in.

Texas Holdem is the dominant game played, and NL Texas Holdem receives the most action. Fixed Limit Holdem is available in limits ranging from $0.15/$0.30 to $500/$1000, with most players in the $2/$4 and lower limits. No-Limit is offered with maximum buy-ins of NL10 to NL10000. Players can find action all of the way up to NL2000. Pot limit is spread with buy-ins from PL10 to PL50, with most play short-handed or at th elower buy-ins.

Omaha is offered in both the High-only and Hi/Lo formats. Hollywood Poker offers games between $0.25/$0.50 and $25/$50 for Fixed-limit games and between PL25 and PL2000 for Pot-limit High-Only. Although offered, there is rarely any traffic at High-only No-limit. Omaha Hi/Lo is offered in all formats, but traffic is very light. Players may find games at the micro-limits.

7-Stud High and 7-Stud Hi/Lo are only offered in Fixed-limit and the limits range between $0.50/$1 and $25/$50. 5-Card Draw is offered in both Fixed-limit and Pot-limit formats with games spread at $1/$2 through $10/$20 for fixed limits and PL25 through PL200.

Hollywood Poker offers many multi-table tournaments each day and in all of the games that they offer in cash games, so players can play anything from NL Holdem to Fixed-limit 5-Card Draw.

SnGs at Hollywood Poker are available at all hours of the day and night. Players can play in standard 10-seat venues or anything ranging from Heads-up to 30-person slugfests. Players can play in turbos, and have a wide variety of buy-ins to choose from.

The Grand

The highly successful Grand Tournament is here to stay. It's runs every month with the Grand Final taking place on the last weekend of each month. This is the biggest tournament held on Hollywood Poker with a prize pool usually in excess of $200,000.

The Grand is played on the last weekend of the month. You can buy-in for $1000+$40 or qualify from as little as $1+$0.10 via the many daily qualifiers.

The Grand is a $1000+$40 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em freeze out tournament with starting stacks of 10,000 and blind increases every 30 minutes. The Grand tournaments take place over two days, making this a completely unique event. The way it works is that it starts on the Saturday at 7:00PM GMT and after 6.5 hours the tournament is paused only to regroup on the Sunday at 7:00PM GMT.

There are two routes to qualify for The Grand, either through a four stage SnG route or through a four stage scheduled Multi-Table tournament route.

Both routes have the same buy-in for each of their four stages. The difference between the two routes is that the Multi-table route is scheduled at various times throughout the week and the SnG stages start when enough players have joined.

Stage One Qualifiers cost $1+$0.10

Stage Two Qualifiers cost $7+$0.70

Stage Three Qualifiers cost $30+$3

Stage Four Qualifiers cost $120+$10

Hollywood Poker limits the number of accounts allowed at any one household to one account holder. Player's found in violation of this term and condition are subject to having all accounts blocked and all monies seized and confiscated. Hollywood Poker reserves the right to request a photocopy of a Government ID card to validate a player's identification.

Hollywood Poker Tournaments with Overlays

A tournament overlay is the result of guaranteed prize money that is not offset by the participant's buy-ins. As such, all freerolls and Player Point freerolls always offer an overlay.

Despite the disallowance of Americans to the Ongame Poker Network, Hollywood Poker and the other Ongame sites still maintain a sizeable site traffic which makes overlays a hit and miss proposition.
